On April 12, 2025, Nepal Chautari e.V. hosted a joyful and culturally rich celebration of the Nepali New Year 2082 B.S. in Pegnitz. While the official date of the New Year falls on April 14, the event was held on the weekend to allow greater participation from the community.
This year’s celebration was especially focused on engaging the local German community in Bayreuth and the surrounding areas, highlighting Nepali culture, music, traditions, and hospitality.
The event opened with a welcome speech by the President of Nepal Chautari e.V., Mr. Lila Raj Karki, followed by a meaningful Khada offering to Oberbürgermeister Thomas Ebersberger, in keeping with the Nepali tradition of honoring guests. A Diya (oil lamp) was then lit as a symbol of peace, light, and new beginnings.
Oberbürgermeister Thomas Ebersberger and Erste Bürgermeister of Pegnitz, Mr. Wolfgang Nierhoff, both delivered kind and encouraging greetings, expressing appreciation for the cultural bridge built between Nepal and Germany through such events.
The audience was then invited to learn more about Nepal through a series of informative and engaging presentations:
Mr. Manoj Kumar Yadav, Treasurer of Nepal Chautari e.V., gave a brief overview of the association’s mission and activities.
Mrs. Sunita Silwal, a long-time resident of Germany, gave a talk on “The Diversity of Nepal: Geography and Culture.”
Dr. Ram Awal gave a clear and helpful explanation about the Nepali calendar and the meaning behind the New Year 2082 B.S., offering cultural insight especially for the German-speaking guests.
Ms. Sonami Adhikari presented on Nepal as a destination for tourism, highlighting its natural beauty, spiritual richness, and warm hospitality.
The cultural program was filled with music, dance, and community spirit:

- A vibrant group dance to the song “Say Thari Baja, Eutai Taal” celebrated the theme of unity in diversity.

- Mr. Karki and Mr. Shikhar Acharya performed traditional Nepali music on Harmonium and Madal.

- A women’s group performed a touching Nepali folk song.

- Mr. Thomas Knauber from Kinder von Nepal, who has visited Nepal several times, shared his moving reflections in a presentation titled “Nepal Through the Eyes of a German.”

- A colorful Kauda dance, a joyful folk dance from Western Nepal, brought smiles to every face.

- The program concluded with a joyful group dance, inviting all guests to come together on the dance floor and celebrate as one community.
Before the evening transitioned to dinner, Dr. Yagya Adhikari, General Secretary of Nepal Chautari e.V., delivered a heartfelt thank-you speech, expressing deep gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the event.
The evening ended on a delicious note – with authentic Nepali food served for all guests to enjoy together.
